This game is fun. They’re calling it the “Traveler IQ Challenge,” but as far as I’m concerned it doesn’t have a ton to do with traveling. It made me realize how little I know about Africa. And Russia. And parts of South America. Gonna have to work on that.
Just like most of the worthwhile things I post, this came from Wendy. If it’s ridiculous or has to do with cats, I probably found it on my own. It’s kind of embarrassing.
Gross!

I was perusing eBay when I came across this handy lens.
“Is not a zoom, it looks like one but its function is to reflect images of the side of what you are supposed to be aiming at. They will think you are shooting something else!”
They are marketing it as a “must have lens for beach goers,” apparently so pervy guys can take pictures of scantily-clad women undetected. They even call it a “voyeur lens.” Sorry, but any guy wandering around a crowded beach with what appears to be a huge zoom lens is still going to pretty creepy looking.
I bet this guy left his voyeur lens in the car.

The instructor for my photography course is a character, possibly a character with ADHD. He makes robot noises while erasing the board, he randomly stops mid-sentence to check out what’s going on in the trash can, and he is a terrible speller. (We all know how I feel about that). Possibly most upsetting: he chronically wears acid-washed jeans that are about 2 sizes too small IN THE MOST UNFORTUNATE AREAS. I don’t quite know how to explain it…they seem to fit properly elsewhere, but it’s like his pants are hiked up too high, or maybe the rise is really long? All I know is it is extremely distracting. And of course I always sit in the front, maybe subconsciously treating myself to an up-close view? Something must be done.
Absolutely not safe for work

This might be old news. For all I know, I am the last person on the interwebs to have seen this, but it was so hilarious I had to share.
“It will get people talking and wanting to visit.”

I’m not dead yet!
January 21, 2008

For the oh, 3 people who were curious, yeah, I’m still alive. Barely. I can’t tell you the last time I was this sick. I’ve had bronchitis in the last couple years but never like this before. Fever of 104ish for a couple days, chills, coughing, headache, and basically the inability to move. I was so weak I couldn’t even sit upright to do anything computer-related. I’ve basically been sleeping for a week. And watching awful television. And whining.
I know I am really sick when I get completely irrational. I was totally sure everyone hated me and no one would care if I was dead. I wanted someone to take care of me but there was no one so I had to get my own ginger ale and MAN was I pissy about it. Now that I’m doing somewhat better I can laugh at myself. I got the nicest email from my boss Cindy with her cell phone number and a message saying that she didn’t like the idea of me being sick and alone and that I should call her if I needed anything. It made me tear up a little that she cares that much.
Gonna try to go back to work tomorrow but we’ll see. I’ve been off of work for over a week now and I feel bad about it. Not that I am indispensable or anything, but there’s a lot of stuff I should be doing. Normally I am the type of person to come to work even when I’m feeling bad and just push through it, but I was worried about getting others sick and this was pretty extreme. Now that the antibiotics are finished up I shouldn’t be contagious any more and if I’m feeling feisty enough I should be ok to go to work. I am sick to death of lying around!
PCR…when you need to find out who the daddy is.

Probably oh, three or so people will find this funny, but too bad. This comes to you courtesy of John Morris, who is renowned far and wide for his skills in finding wacky science crap on the internet.

I already sent out a big email about this website, but I might as well post it here, too. Wendy told me about this site and I found it to be very useful to learn about different candidates and their positions. You answer 35 questions about different issues and it tells you which candidates most closely match your views. I love having a website do all my research for me…it’s the American way!
I wish that the font of these titles wasn’t so large.

It’s crazy warm today. I believe it is 61 degrees right now, a solid 40 degrees warmer than this time last week. You’d think I’d be squealing with delight, but it’s really not that great. The sky is just as gray and dreary, perhaps drearier. The snow is nearly entirely melted and everything is a big, sloppy mess. I’m glad that it’s no longer bitterly cold (for the time being), but that’s about it.
In other news, today is the start of the spring semester at MSU. This means that campus is crawling with students, eager to learn…or maybe just eager to be back from winter break so they can drink themselves into stupors again. In any case, over the next few days there is a high likelihood of me hitting one or more with my car…”accidentally.” After a week or so, the risk will go down considerably as the novelty of class wears off and more and more start skipping.
Speaking of class, I start class next week! I’m taking introductory Spanish, an intro photography course and figure drawing. Eleven credits, almost a full load…it’s going to keep me busy in the evenings, but what am I doing with myself anyway? I can’t even tell you how I spend most of my time outside of work. Actually, I can’t even tell you how I spend most of my time at work. I am bored and kind of depressed in the most literal sense of the word. Not sad, even, just kind of um…less active, mentally, emotionally, physically? Sluggish? Numbed? I blame winter. I’m hoping that taking some classes for fun will liven things up a bit and help me to meet some new people.
Speaking of new people: I have a new roommate! She moved in yesterday morning and her name is Hilary. She has been living in Chicago for the last few years but is now back in East Lansing to be closer to her family. She seems very nice and very communicative, which I like. We’ve hit it off pretty well so far, and I’m hopeful that this will be a good situation.
I’m getting the itchy “I-need-to-travel” feeling again (it was gone for a bit after California) but I don’t know where to go. If anyone has any ideas or wants to go somewhere with me in the next couple months, let me know. I’m up for anything.
I think that’s it. Time to go take a nap.
Can’t stop laughing about this, particularly the last line…
